Schools Work
Did you know? |
All maintained schools in England and Wales have a statutory requirement to provide a daily act of collective
worship for all registered pupils (unless they have been withdrawn by their parents). |
This act of collective worship must be wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character (unless the
head teacher of the school has applied to the Local Authority to have this requirement lifted). |
All maintained schools in England and Wales have a statutory requirement to provide Religious
Education to all students (except for those in nursery classes and those who have been withdrawn by their parents). |
Religious Education in all community and voluntary controlled schools should be
taught in accordance with an agreed syllabus and this syllabus must reflect the fact that the religious traditions
in Great Britain are in the main Christian (while taking account of the teachings and practices of the other
principal religions in Great Britain). |
The government recommend a minimum of 36 hours per year should be devoted to
Religious Education in Key Stage 1, 45 hours in Key Stages 2 and 3 and 40 hours in Key Stage 4. |
